Oracle Certification Environment Program (OCE) announced

The OCE program is just announced from Oracle, a program to allow hardware and software vendors to certify that their products work with Oracle, receiving an OCE certification upon passing:

"The Oracle Certification Environment (OCE) group provides support and tooling (OCE Kits) for Oracle certification and validation projects. OCE kits allow self-service certification and validations by Oracle partners, facilitating a streamlined certification and validation process. The OCE group with input from development and product management develops the Oracle certification standard that certification owners must meet for qualification, approval, validation, or testing of a component or technology stack.

Once a certification and validation is completed the results are audited and qualified certifications and validations will be posted on MOSC.

The OCE team works with Oracle Partner Management and third party vendors for approving support statements published by third party vendors with respect to certification projects with Oracle."

Kevin Closson, Chief Architect at Polyserve, shares these insights about the new OCE program at Oracle:

As you know, Oracle databases have been deployed in filesystems for 30 years and customers' processes, scripts and procedures are all geared towards this kind of storage. Some people like ASM, others don't because ASM is a collection of raw devices and there are storage provisioning difficulties where raw is concerned that a lot of datacenters really don't like dealing with.

Moreover, ASM only takes care of the database. Left off the table are Oracle Home, imp/exp, SQL*Loader infiles, External Tables (can use iPQO with a CFS btw), UTIL_FILE BFILE, logs trace, etc etc…
