A Couple of Oracle OLAP Articles
August 12, 2005
Mark Rittman

Dan Vlamis has just published a couple of short papers on Oracle OLAP following on from presentations at IOUG Live 2005! "Oracle OLAP--How Does it Really Work?" takes a look at the mechanics behind analytic workspaces and Analytic Workspace Manager 10g, whilst "Front-End Tools to View OLAP Data" looks at how Discoverer for OLAP, BI Beans and Enterprise Planning & Budgeting fit together as options for displaying OLAP data.

Over the next few months I should be releasing a few more papers to coincide with the forthcoming conferences, including one on how the 10g BI Phase 2 technology stack fits together, and one on how you can go about using the OLAP-specific features in the latest version of Discoverer. I'm also contributing a chapter on Discoverer for OLAP for the forthcoming Oracle Press Discoverer Handbook (as long as I can get my act together and get the chapter in on time) and I've just agreed to do another article for DBAZine, this time on performance tuning for Oracle OLAP. So that should keep me busy for a while...

Just a quick note again that the guys behind the OLAP Survey 5 are currently looking for people to take part in the latest survey. If you're an Express, Oracle OLAP or Discoverer, fill in the survey and make your views known.

Oh, and I've just noticed that the Oracle TimesTen database is now available for download on OTN (software, release notes, installation guide and documentation) - anyone had a play around with this yet? First impressions?
