Oracle Identity Management Announced

Oracle Identity Management is a new feature being delivered with 10g that combines Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Delegated Administration Service, Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On and Oracle Application Server Certificate Authority to deliver an end-to-end Oracle-based security infrastructure. According to the product section on OTN;

"Oracle Identity Management is an integrated, scalable and robust identity management infrastructure. Oracle Identity Management includes an LDAP directory service, directory integration and provisioning services, a delegated administration service application, authentication and authorization services, and an X.509 V3 certificate authority. Key benefits of Oracle Identity Management are its robustness and scalability, out-of-the-box deployment support for Oracle products, utility as a single point of integration for other enterprise identity management solutions, and open, standards-based implementation."

Oracle Indentity Management will come in a limited form for 10g Database and 10g Collaboration Suite customers, with the full version being rolled out with 10g Application Server. According to this article;

 "Oracle Identity Management, which is part of Oracle's 10g database and application server offering due by year's end, brings together a lot of components that previously were scattered across Oracle's offerings. Central is an LDAP directory, Web single sign-on capabilities, and an authority for issuing PKI certificates. OIM also includes APIs for connecting to other authentication services from third parties. All the applications in Oracle's enterprise software suite work with OIM out of the box, officials said."

 Whilst reports;

 "It's integrated with Oracle stuff out of the box," says John Heimann, director of security product management for Oracle. That's a clear selling point when dealing with established Oracle customers, but Heimann says that it isn't just about the integration. He says that identity management is "another category of data" and data is, after all, is Oracle's specialty."

More details can be found on these FAQs and Whitepapers available on OTN.
