Convincing your boss to take the Oracle training cruises

Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting

Some managers misunderstand that a cruise environment is conducive to learning and that cruises are far cheaper than traditional classroom learning environments.

This cruise begins and ends in Ft. Lauderdale, and you will be invoiced for a traditional Florida training class.

Also, remember that the cruise component is only your meals and accommodations which are unrelated to your training.  Your invoicing will be for "BC Oracle training", with no mention of the cruise accommodations.

Some tips for convincing the boss

Many cruise attendees use their discretionary training budget, an annual training allowance where the professional may choose the training activities of their choice.  There are many compelling reasons to take a BC Oracle cruise and you need-only remind your management of the bottom-line costs and quality:

  • Great value - The BC cruises are far more inexpensive than traditional Oracle training courses, and the cost of a cruise is less than a business class hotel.  This Oracle training is only available for open enrollment on the Oracle training cruise.

  • High Quality - Your instructors are all industry experts and authors and you get hands-on personal attention that is unavailable in traditional classroom environments.  Within the ,limited confines of a cruise ship, you get a change to get personal attention from your instructor.  The BC cruise training is normally done as on-site training, and this is your only opportunity to buy a single "seat" for this unparalleled training.  This is training that is unavailable anywhere else, a chance to learn from some of the industries top experts.

  • Invest in you - Remind your manager that a single tip from this training could pay for the costs of the whole cruise.  You are learning secrets from practicing experts, training that you cannot get anywhere else. Also, the Oracle cruise is often used as a reward for superstar Oracle professionals, a perk to help retain mission-critical personnel.

  • No Coverage loss - Remind your boss that cruises today are inexpensive and all-inclusive, many with wireless access and cell phone access.  You will not be out-of-touch during your training.

The cruise industry has a history of opulent luxury and high expense, and some managers may have historical misconceptions about the value of an Oracle cruise.

Dealing with Resistance

There are several ways to deal with resistance from management who perceives a cruise to be a luxury, or a high expense.  Many of our BC cruise attendees use these techniques:

  • Take a per diem - Remind your management that they can simply provide you with a standard per-diem compensation.  It's likely that your companies standard per-diem for lodging and meals will cover the majority of your cruise stateroom costs.  The training is 3-days, so your management may agree to pay for 3-days standard lodging, enough to cover a large part of the cruise costs.

  • Take vacation - Many attendees will take-off without pay or use vacation time to attend this Oracle training.

  • Use tuition reimbursement - Most corporations offer tuition reimbursement for extracurricular education.

  • Use a tax deduction - Educational expenses can be tax deductible, and some attendees recognize the value of this training to their careers and pay the fees themselves as an investment in their Oracle career.

If you need further justification for your management, just give a a call and we will be happy to provide supporting documentation.
