2010 Oracle layoffs may exceed 10,000

Oracle may lay off ten thousand professionals

Part of the Oracle Sun merger was about synergy, so it’s no surprise that Oracle is planning massive 2010 layoffs.  In a government filing, Oracle plans to write off up to $825,000 in restructuring expenses, an act whereby Oracle could wind-up tossing up to 10,000 Oracle professionals out into the job market:

“Oracle didn’t say in its filing how many jobs that will mean, but early estimates put the Oracle-Sun layoffs as high as 10,000 employees, or more than one-third of the Sun workforce that existed before the acquisition."

These types of layoffs are not uncommon in large acquisitions, and the prospects for Oracle remain quite bright for 2010.
