APEX LOV Delete Popup Confirmation

Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting

Adding the Delete Popup Confirmation

When deleting a record, you may wish to obtain user confirmation before performing the actual delete.   One way is to create a region or page that contains a second button for confirmation.   But this can get troublesome with the navigation to the region or page.   A simpler way is to implement a javascript popup window.

In the Delete button definition, in the Optional URL Redirect section, we will add the following.

1)         Target is a:   URL

2)         URL Target:   javascript:confirmDelete(htmldb_delete_message,'DELETE');

The first parameter to the confirmDelete javascript is the message you wish to print.   The htmldb_delete_message is a default message set in APEX.   The following image shows the popup.

When the user clicks the butting, the popup will display.  If the user clicks ‘Cancel’, nothing will happen.   If the user selects ‘Ok’, the REQUEST value will be set to DELETE (or whatever you put in the quotes) – the second parameter.   So have your Conditional Processing/Condition Type set to  ‘Request = Expression 1’ and Expression 1 will be DELETE.

You can also change the htmldb_delete_message to something else that you would like, here is another example:

javascript:confirmDelete('Would like to permanently delete this Record?',’Delete_Clicked’);
