Tucson El Conquistador Golf Course review
Independent golf tips for the professional at Leisure
February 2009
|
The Hilton El Conquistador resort is at 10000 North
Oracle Road in Tucson is a great winter getaway, reasonably priced, with
great rooms and golf.
Arizona offers a wide range of resort experiences for
the golfer, ranging from the opulent Phoenician ($800 per night, with golf),
down to lesser resorts catering to the working-class elderly.
This was our second stay with
the Hilton resorts in 2009, as Hilton is offering unbeatable deals
on dog-friendly rooms with golf.
The El Conquistador gave us
a $150/night "Casita", a small house thingy, with a spectacular
view, and live bunnies and quail for Noel to watch. Noel loved
it!

The golf is not world-class, but for middle-aged hackers like us, it
was perfect, fun courses, all for a total of under $300 day for 18
holes for to plus room.
On-site, they have a cute little 9
hole course that you can play twice, a little course that weaves in
and out from the casitas. |

This Hilton "Resort" is not a resort in the
traditional sense, and it's a bit worn around the edges, but as a "moderate
hotel", it's perfect!
Room service is OK, but not spectacular, but up on
Oracle road in north Tucson there is a great variety of great restaurants.
You may also want to avoid the "fusion" restaurant at
El Conquistador, horrid by any standard. However, the cafe makes up
for this, with a great breakfast buffet, homemade has browns and omelettes.

Desert golf takes some getting used to, especially resisting the
temptation to go after a ball and perhaps find a rattlesnake!

If you just want to relax, the El Conquistador is great, you can
just hop-into a golf car and be on the links in no time at all.
The staff is exceptionally friendly and overall, the El
Conquistador is a exceptional value for the money.
