Course Description

Object orientation has been making huge inroads into mainstream data processing systems. The widespread use of Java, C++ and Oracle8 have lead many seasoned IT professionals to wonder how the world of objects can be reconciled into the world of traditional procedural languages such as Cobol.

This half-day seminar is designed to make the IT professional technologically aware of the main areas of Object Orientation and how object-oriented tools are used in traditional IT shops. The basic OO concepts of encapsulation, inheritance, methods and polymorphism will be explained as they relate to legacy programming languages such as Cobol. The seminar will also describe how the new object-oriented databases such as Oracle8 are being used with Java and C++ to revolutionize information systems on the Web.
