Problem:

My database crashed and nobody can log on to the database.
The following error appears in alertlog:

skgpspawn failed:category = 27143, depinfo = 9261, op = spdcr, loc = skgpspawn

Answer:

The skgpspawn failed alert log happened because of a Windows resource issue.

This skgpspawn failed alert log implies you are out of OS system resources. There is a bug (2441734) which is port-specific to Windows where setting SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME wastes stack memory reducing the total number of connections which can be achieved. This skgpspawn failed error is fixed in Oracle10g and included in the 9.2.0.3 patchset release. The workaround is to set SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 0 or remove it from sqlnet.ora

You usually need at least 500k RAM and you should also monitor CPU consumption as well.
