Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud
Oracle announced the release of what it is calling
"middleware in a box" at the Oracle Open World in San
Francisco. Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, is a combination of
software, servers, storage and networking which serves as a
middleware engine that runs Java along with other applications.
“Exalogic is the only middleware machine on the market and is
tuned for extreme middleware performance,” said Rick Schultz,
vice president of product marketing at Oracle.
Exalogic provides enterprises with the ability to build both
private and public elastic clouds using a combination of Sun
hardware and Oracle software. Ellison described the new box as the
world’s first middleware machine. About the size of a refrigerator,
containing 30 servers and 360 cores it includes networking and
storage capabilities that are scalable as a cloud from a quarter
rack to eight racks. Ellison called it, “ …one big honkin’
cloud.”
